The Tartu City Marathon is unique in Estonia. The full 42 km marathon distance is run in a single lap, meaning that every kilometre of the course offers new experiences as it passes through Tartu’s iconic locations.

Participants may also choose a half marathon or a 10 km course. Kids’ races for the youngest running enthusiasts will take place in Tartu city centre. In addition, the festival programme includes the lively and entertaining Friday Night Run.

Participants can also complete the run virtually on a course of their own choosing.

When it comes to physical activity, it is not the pace or results that matter most, but the opportunity to be active, spend time outdoors and enjoy a sense of wellbeing. Everyone can choose a distance and pace that suits them and prepare for the event independently or by joining organised training sessions.

Put on your University of Tartu sportswear, invite your colleagues, fellow students or friends, and head to the starting line together.

When registering for an event, select "Tartu Ülikool" as your team in the “OTHER INFORMATION” section. A 30% discount will then be automatically applied to the registration fee, based on the price in effect at the time of registration. As participation fees change during the registration period and generally increase as the event approaches, participants are encouraged to register early.

For those preparing for the Tartu City Marathon’s 10 km or half-marathon distance, 10 km and 21 km training plans have been developed in cooperation with CrossFit KÕU and coach Kaspar Nisu. The plans combine running and strength training and are designed for participants who want to approach their race in a structured and well-prepared way.

The training plans are available on the Tartu Maraton Facebook page (in Estonian):

Tartu City Marathon belongs to the RIMI Estonian City Run series and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

All university members, together with family and friends, are invited to cheer for participants in the Tartu City Marathon. You can support them anywhere along the course or at one of the university’s cheer stations, which will be in front of the university’s main building and near the Delta centre. At the cheer stations, all supporters are offered hot tea and coffee and have a chance to win one of six Tiksu stuffed toys.

A limited number of T-shirts and bobble hats with the University of Tartu logo will be available at the cheer stations for students and staff to wear when supporting fellow UT members. To receive these, please bring your UT employee ID card, student card, or another document confirming your affiliation with the University of Tartu.
