Richard Kerner was granted an honorary doctorate

The University of Tartu Senate granted Richard Kerner, emeritus professor of Sorbonne Université, an honorary doctorate in mathematical physics.

Richard Kerner is a French theoretical physicist who has done most of his research and teaching at the Pierre-et-Marie-Curie University in Paris. Richard Kerner was the Director of the Laboratory of Gravitation and Relativistic Cosmology from 1990 to 2001. He his a distinguished mathematical physicist and has received the Alexandre-Joannidès award of the French Academy of Sciences for his work.

In his research, Richard Kerner has contributed to various areas of mathematical physics, for example gravitational theories, supersymmetrical field theories and noncommutative geometry. Richard Kerner uses modern differential geometry and algebraic methods in his research and develops his own theories as well. He is the author of over two hundred academic publications and various mathematical physics monographies.

Richard Kerner has been to Estonia more than ten times and has collaborated with researchers of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (Maido Rahula, Mati Kilp, Viktor Abramov) and the Institute of Physics (Piret Kuusk, Jaak Kikas, Stefan Groote) of University of Tartu. During his visits he has delivered lectures to doctoral students and presented his work at local conferences.
